Pictures for the week

Catching up on some photos from the week that has just passed.

Derek in his jumpee. He's pretty much mastered the jumpee. It's so easy, a caveman could do it.

Derek hanging on the couch after a bottle.

Here we are playing on the floor. We're getting close to rolling over, just haven't finished a complete roll yet.

Hi - Spencer here. I'm in the jumpy, just not as good as Derek. I think I'll tell you who's going to win the Super Bowl next Saturday. In the meantime, I predict you'll see no memorable commercials. In year's past, we got the monkeys for Career Builder, a sock puppet, Jason Alexander for Pepsi, and more. I don't think we'll get anything memorable this year.

You know what cracks me up Spencer? Dr. Phil!

Still sleeping in the same crib at the start of the night.

When morning comes, I kick Derek out and then start moving around in the crib.

We still like to hold hands whenever we can.

DJ isn't crying here ... He just isn't smiling because he just saw the UW recruiting class.

DJ and the Sushi

Sounds like a band ...

Sushi

In the foreground is the Olympic 5-Ring.

It makes sense to have this sushi roll in Atlanta.

So Long Jeff Kent

With apologies to Jason Wilde, Richard Justice is the best sportswriter in America. He wrote a piece on chron.com about the retirement of Jeff Kent that will bring a tear to your eye.

Like most baseball players, Kent isn't a very nice guy. I'd use other words to describe professional baseball players, but this a family site. Most of them just aren't very nice guys. Maybe it's the years of bus trips to exotic locales like Clinton, Iowa and Erie, PA.

Kent is one of those types.

He's not a guy who's going to go out of his way to sign an autograph or, heaven-forbid, speak to the media.

Yet, when Justice talks about Kent at TCH, it makes your heart feel good - especially now that we're parents.

In case you forgot, here's a picture from one of the Astros greatest moments in 2004. Too bad Kent took off for LA before the 2005 season.

Read the Justice piece and you'll understand the importance of this picture.

Growing out of clothes

D has pretty much out grown these, so Mom thought she'd better get a picture.

Live from New Orleans - Before Kids

We found this picture from one of our phones.

It's of Jen and Astro outside of Jackson Square in New Orleans. We'd just spent 30 minutes at Cafe du Monde for coffee and doughnuts. The Mississippi River would be right behind me, the photographer - if that's what you call it when you use a phone to take a picture.

We were travelling from Atlanta to Houston during the move in 2007.

This is also where Jen and I open up the debate about the great restaurants we've eaten at over the years. Port-O-Call on Esplanade is one of our all-time favorites. When you're in the Big Easy, stop by the Port for a burger - you won't be disappointed.

Court of Two Sisters is also another must stop when visiting the Crescent City.

We can also name places in just about every city we've visited or lived in. Like a place in Brooklyn that was probably a book-making operation, yet it served a mean plate of meat and potatoes.

D and Mom at Macaroni Grill

Jen and I adventured to Macaroni Grill on Sunday before football started (Super Bowl predictions later). We're not big on chain restaurants, but now that we've got kids, everything changes.

We're on a regular diet of franchised concepts like Applebee's, Friday's, and more.

DJ and Spence really enjoy going out so we'll keep hitting the town as long as the kids behave.

Weekend at Bernie's, er, Weekend in Bloomington

We're took our first road trip with DJ and Spencer. In honor of Nicolas Ray's first birthday, Jen and I loaded the car and headed to Bloomington, Indiana to see my sister Jill, Steve, and their child, Nico.

We made the 8 hour drive unscathed and had an enjoyable weekend in the land of Bobby Knight and John "Don't Call Me Cougar" Mellencamp.

Here's Jill with Spencer. It was the first time the two had met.

Here are Grandma and Grandpa with their three grandchildren. At Christmas 2007, there were no little grandkids around. Now there are three.

Everybody loves Elmo, except Jennifer.

It's Nico's first taste of cake.

Spencer puts on his first baseball cap and it's a Cleveland Indians cap. At least it's not a Cubs hat.

Astro made the trip and hid under the excersaucer to avoid three children.

Picture Alert!

It's been a few days since we updated photos, so here are a bunch.

Give me a few more weeks and then I'll hold this one myself.

Spencer is about to pin Derek. The ref's count is on 2.

We're watching our favorite show: Judge Joe Brown!

Give me that rice cereal!

That's some good stuff!

Tired after some good cereal.

It's time for me to get buckled into the bouncy chair.

I wore this shirt because mom and dad watched Backdraft last night on TV.

It's my turn for rice cereal mommy.

Bring it on!

I'm trying to get less on my chin and more in my mouth.

Overalls

Don't we look cute in our overalls?

We're about to out-grow these so we need to wear them when we can. And since it felt like Florida in Atlanta today, it was perfect timing.

More Pictures

Happy Sunday Everyone!

Here's Spencer in a make-shift chair.

Look at me smile when Daddy tickles me!

I'm gonna throw this one at you!

Derek with his Uncle Todd - I probably won't be as big as him.

Spencer with his Aunt Jessie. Maybe he'll play tennis too!

Spencer with his mommy, except he's more interested in the Vikings-Eagles playoff game than the camera.
