Derek's Dirty Dozen College Football Picks

Hi all -

It's Derek, back with my more college football picks for one of the last Saturday's of the year. I went 10-2 last weekend, making me 27-9 for the season. That's not a bad winning percentage. I need to hit my dad up for some money to gamble and maybe it's time for a trip to Vegas for some parlay cards.

Here are my 12 games for this weekend:

#1 - Wisconsin over Cal Poly Cougar Mellencamp. Wisconsin needed an extra game and apparently Edgewood College was not available. Nor was MATC. It's doubtful that season ticket holders received a discount for this matchup.

#2 - Boise State over Nevada. This is a little bit of a rivalry game. Boise plays away from the blue turf and still wins.

#3 - UTEP over Houston. Houston played out of their minds last week to beat Tulsa. They might not have anything left. And, Mike Price is sure to be fired up to bring the Miners to Houston since that means a trip to the ballet and the shoe show.

#4 - Kansas State over Iowa State. Sorry Aunt Jill. One day, ISU will have some players that weren't also recruited by Loras College.

#5 - Rice over Marshall. There's no Georgia, Texas, or Georgia Tech games to pick this weekend. So we go for the Rice ballgame. Don't know much about them except they have a great receiver (Dillard) and a coach who won praise for his work at Texas State or as they called it when Daddy lived in Austin - Southwest Texas. Plus, the game's at Rice Stadium which hosted the Super Bowl in the 70s.

#6 - Ohio State over Michigan. Michigan knew they were going to have a bad year. So, I guess the "down year" meant the players didn't need to play with heart. Ohio State has a QB that will run all over UM.

#7 - Purdue over Indiana. Sorry cousin Nico. Purdue wins because the Boilermakers are at home. And, will anyone care about this game other than folks along the banks of the Wabash and maybe Tippecanoe or Tyler too?

#8 - Northwestern over Illinois. From the Rose Bowl to the No Bowl for Illinois. And, the NCAA will be embarassed because not enough teams are eligible for bowl games.

#9 - Penn State over Michigan State. The Spartans flew to State College on private jets. Penn State holds it against them and instead of giving them a congressional tongue lashing, the Nittany Lions just score lots of points.

#10 - Texas Tech over Oklahoma. Just a hunch. Plus, Mike Leach had an extra week to talk to his team about Pirates.

#11 - LSU over Ole Miss. Turkeys are being fryed along the bayou this weekend as the tailgate parties near Mike the Tiger's habitat take on a Thanksgiving flair.

#12 - Washington State over Washington. Somebody's gotta win the Apple Cup. Take the home team.
